Can Si-Rex03 be matched to other colour charts? |
|
|
Yes – Around 50% of the paint
we produce is matched to other colour charts. We cannot do all
colours because we only use oxide based pigments which are mainly
earthy colours. Colours such as bright yellows, lime greens,
bright reds, oranges, purples are not possible. |

Why Did Radcote Pty Ltd Change it’s Name to Klaas Coatings? |
|
|
Radcote was originally a brand name
held by Radcrete Pacific Pty Ltd. When Radcote Pty Ltd started
as an independent company it was logical to name the company
after the product. There was however a lot of confusion by customers
and distributors between Radcrete and Radcote. A change of name
helped to clarify that the companies are separate entities and
no longer related. |
|
Why was Radcote the product superseded? |
|
|
After 5 years with Radcote under
the Radcrete company banner and then Radcote banner we felt
some areas of performance could be improved. Those areas related
to easier paintability, touching up properties and better waterproofing
performance. Silicate Paints have inherent limitations that
Silicone Resin paints don’t have. We took the decision
to fully develop Silicone Resin Paint technology. During testing,
and with initial applications it was clear that Si-Rex03 outperformed
Radcote while keeping a mineral matt finish and exceptional
durability. |
|
Is there any price difference between Radcote
and Si-Rex03? |
|
|
No- while Si-Rex03 has improved performance
price has not changed. |
|
Is the warranty period different between Radcote
and Si_Rex03? |
|
|
No – Both are 15 years |
|
How can something be water repellent and breathe
at the same time? |
|
|
Silicone Resins have a unique chemical
structure. They are “trifunctional” and form a very
strong, UV resistant, three dimensional cross linked structure
of alternating Si (Silicone) and O (Oxygen) atoms. These have
an affinity to the substrate and to themselves. There are also
Methyl (R) water repellent groups that are in the Silicone Resin
that aligns itself in the remaining axis. This is on the surface
and in the pores of the paint. The repellent groups “team
up” to stop liquid water from entering the pores in the
paint. At the same time water in the form of vapour is very
small and can pass through the pores and escape. It is a quite
similar to Gore-tex® in principle. |

Where do I buy Si-Rex03? |
|
|
In Australia – Contact Klaas
Coatings (02) 9960 6131) and we will nominate the nearest distributor,
or have delivery arranged from the factory direct to site. Overseas
– Contact us and we’ll pass you on to the nearest
distributor. |
|
How do you know Si-Rex03 will outlast conventional paints? |
|
|
We have undertaken both accelerated
weathering tests, outdoor exposure tests against the leading
brands and the correlation is stronger performance. It is well
understood in Chemical Engineering that Silicone and it’s
derivates are inorganic/organic hybrids and completely UV resistant,
whereas acrylics and other organic compounds degrade with UV
exposure. In addition the first Silicone Resin Paints used in
Germany were applied 30 years ago and they are still going strong,
with excellent fade resistance, clean appearance and strong
water repellency. |
|
Are special contractors or skills required to apply Klaas Coatings
products? |
|
|
Our products have been formulated
to make application as forgiving as possible. So no specialist
experience is necessary. Any experienced and reliable painting
contractor will be able to apply our products. |
|
What is difference between oxide pigments and organic pigments? |
|
|
We only use oxide pigments in our
systems. Oxide pigment do not break down with UV exposure. Organic
pigments break down with UV exposure. Organic pigments are suitable
for interior applications but are not suited for non-fading,
long term exterior exposure. Oxide pigments tend to be more
“earthy” colours compared to bright and strong organic
pigment colours. |
|
Are Klaas coatings products manufactured under licence? |
|
|
No – our formulation have been
developed by us in Australia for tough Australian conditions.
We use the best raw materials available worldwide to produce
our products. |
|
Can Si-Rex03 be re-painted at a later date? |
|
|
Yes – Si-Rex03 can be painted
by other self priming paints or adhesion modified acrylic paints.
So long as there are wetting agents included in the formulation
re-painting is not a problem. Some Polyurethane without wetting
agents have experienced issues. Older silicone oil / rubber
based paints often had problems with overcoating. These issue
are not shared with Silicone Resin based paints. |
